Staff

Here at Abacus we are proud to state that in general our staff stay with us for many years which offers consistency for the children.

The recommended staff ratio is 1 to 3 for under 2 year olds, 1 to 4 for under 3 years olds and 1 to 8 for over 3 year olds. We exceed the quota in most cases.

All key staff members hold relevant Childcare qualifications and have a minimum of three years experience, and our management team are qualified to degree level including an Early Years professional B. Ed. (Bachelor of Education) and a drama graduate.

All staff are closely vetted for suitability, prior to recruitment. CRB checks are carried out and relevant references taken.

There are opportunities for inservice and further training, staff meetings are held frequently and self appraisal is encouraged.

The staff are regularly monitored to ensure that they carry out their roles and responsibilities effectively.

The Children Act 1989 required that many of the policies and procedures which govern the way we run the nursery are set out by us in writing. This makes good sense as it ensures all staff are working to the same standard.
